## Rules questions

### Do I remove the Joker at setup, and when can I use it?

Remove the Joker from the Poker deck during setup and set it aside; the Joker cannot be used in the game until you have defeated the appropriate enemy (setup and Joker rules). (pages 5, 7)

### How many cards must I play for a Hand — do I have to discard all five even if only some score?

You must choose exactly five of your eight cards to form a Hand and discard those five after playing it, even if only some of them contribute to the scoring combination; only the cards that actually score count for Ace/face bonuses. (page 8)

### If I can't even make a Pair, can I still use up a Hand to get new cards?

Yes — if you cannot make at least a Pair and your Discards dial is empty, you may play a Hand of five cards that deals 0 damage (a Jammed Gun), which still uses one click of your Hands dial and lets you draw new cards. (page 9)

### When I discard and draw or renew the deck, does that change the Discards dial, and what if I can't reduce it?

Both Discard and Draw and Renew the Deck actions require you to reduce the Discards dial by 1; if you cannot reduce the Discards dial, you cannot take either action. (pages 6, 12)

### Do Aces and face cards add their extra damage if they were only non-scoring cards I had to discard?

No — Ace (+3) and face card (+1 each) bonuses only apply to the cards that actually score in the Hand; non-scoring extra cards discarded with the Hand do not add those bonuses. (page 8)

### If I have Two Pair or a Full House, do bonuses for a 'Pair' or 'Three of a Kind' still apply?

Bonuses apply only to the exact combination indicated, so a Two Pair or Full House does not trigger a bonus printed for 'Pair' or 'Three of a Kind'; note you are allowed to declare and play a lesser hand if you prefer. (page 15)
