## Rules questions

### Can we look through the book or the fronts of the cards before we start?

No — do not leaf through the book or look at the fronts of any cards until the game tells you to; start the stopwatch and then you may look through the book and begin (pages 2, 7).

### When can we use the strange items that came in the box?

Only when the book explicitly tells you you've found them; until then leave the strange items untouched in the box (page 3).

### If an Answer Card looks like the code is right, can we keep that card out or do we have to return it?

Return all Answer Cards to the Answer Card pile whether the code is right or wrong; the Answer Card will tell you how to continue but must be returned (pages 4–5).

### Is it okay to just try all possible number combinations on the decoder disk until something works?

No — all codes can be solved logically and you should not try all possible combinations on the disk; if a code is incorrect the Answer Card will tell you and you must keep searching (page 5).

### Can we use a Help Card even if we haven't found the riddle with that symbol yet?

No — Help Cards only apply to the specific riddle identified by their symbol, and they won't help if you haven't found that riddle (pages 5–6).

### Are we allowed to write on, fold, tear, or cut the game materials?

Yes — writing on, folding, tearing or even cutting the materials is allowed and sometimes required, but note the game is intended for one playthrough (page 6).
