## Rules questions

### Can the captain appoint themself as lieutenant or navigator?

No — the captain cannot appoint themself, and lieutenant and navigator must be different players; off-duty players also cannot be appointed (p.9).

### How does a mutiny work and who becomes the new captain?

Players secretly reveal guns and if the total meets the threshold the mutiny succeeds; the player who revealed the most guns becomes the new captain, with tie‑breaking procedures decided by the current captain, and all revealed guns are discarded (pp.9–10).

### When are off‑duty signs given and do they stop someone becoming captain?

Off‑duty signs are handed out after a successful navigation according to the player count, and off‑duty players cannot be appointed as lieutenant/navigator, but they can still be involved in mutinies and can become captain via a mutiny (pp.11,10).

### What happens if the navigator jumps overboard (denies command)? Can the crew mutiny during the emergency navigation?

If the navigator jumps overboard they are eliminated and the captain immediately names an emergency navigator; there is no mutiny step for emergency navigation and the captain, lieutenant and emergency navigator carry out another navigation (p.12).

### If someone has been Cabin‑Searched or Flogged, can they later be converted into a Cultist?

No — players who have been examined by a Cabin Search or affected by a Flogging are unconvertible and cannot be turned into a Cultist (pp.13–15).

### When the captain reveals the chosen navigation card, which happens first: moving the ship, map actions, or the card’s icon effects?

Execute the navigation card in order: first move the ship according to the card, then perform any map action on the landing space, and finally resolve the navigation card’s icon actions (p.11; map actions p.13).
