## Rules questions

### Can I explore a Lost Fleet spaceship from anywhere on the map?

No. The spaceship must be within range of one of your colonized planets, although you may spend Q.I.C.s or use special actions to increase your range. You measure range from your closest colonized planet, never from a spaceship you have already explored (p. 9).

### How much does it cost to explore a spaceship, and can more than one of my shuttles go there?

You pay the deployment cost shown on your Exploration board, usually 5 victory points, and you may send only one Exploration Shuttle to each spaceship. Some factions have additional costs or requirements, such as the Taklons moving their Brainstone or the Nevlas and Itars discarding 1 power (p. 9).

### Does exploring a spaceship count as colonizing it, and can I build a mine there later?

No. A spaceship is explored, not colonized, so it does not function as a planet and cannot receive a mine. It also cannot be used as the point from which you measure range on later turns (p. 9).

### Do I still pay the normal cost when I build a mine on an asteroid?

No. An asteroid requires an available Gaiaformer, but you do not pay the mine’s normal 1 ore and 2 credits; instead, place the used Gaiaformer on the asteroid space of the overlay tile, where it remains unavailable for the rest of the game (p. 10).

### How many terraforming steps does a protoplanet require, and do I get points for starting on one?

Every faction needs 3 terraforming steps to build a mine on a protoplanet, and doing so awards 6 victory points. A faction that starts the game on a protoplanet does not receive those 6 points for its starting planet (p. 10).

### Can I use the new spaceship actions without an Exploration Shuttle there?

No. You may use an action on a spaceship only if you have an Exploration Shuttle there and the action has not already been covered by an action token. After using it, cover the action and pay all listed power and resource costs (p. 10).
