## Rules questions

### Do I have to discard the Countess if I also have the King or Prince in my hand?

Yes — if you ever have the Countess and either the King or a Prince in your hand you must discard the Countess (you do not have to reveal the other card). (page 8)

### If I'm knocked out of the round do I still apply my hand's card effect when I discard it face up?

No — a knocked-out player discards the card in their hand face up but does not apply its effect, and takes no more turns until the next round. (page 5)

### If I discard the Princess, do any other effects (like the Prince causing a draw) still happen?

No — if you discard the Princess you are immediately knocked out of the round and any remaining effects of the card that discarded her do not apply, though effects tied to being knocked out (e.g., Constable, Jester) still apply. (page 8)

### What happens if I try to target a player who is protected by the Handmaid or Sycophant?

If your discarded card requires choosing a player who cannot be chosen due to protection (Handmaid or Sycophant), your card is discarded without effect; the Handmaid effect grants immunity until the start of that player's next turn. (pages 5, 9)

### Can I name ‘1’ when I play a Guard (i.e., can I guess someone is holding another Guard)?

No — when you play a Guard you must name a number other than 1. (page 10)

### What happens if I guess a player with a Guard and they reveal the Assassin in their hand?

If a player chosen by a Guard reveals the Assassin, the Guard's player is eliminated from the round while the Assassin-holder is not; then the Assassin must be discarded and the Assassin-holder draws a new card (or the removed card if the deck is empty). (page 14)
