## Rules questions

### Do I have to pay to move my Ship, and how far can it move on my turn?

You may move your Ship 1–4 spaces clockwise; the first space is free and each space beyond the first costs 1 Augustalis (pay as you move), then proceed to Perform Action. (Rulebook p.8)

### Can I play an Action card face-down and pick any of the five main actions?

No — playing a card face-down lets you perform only one of the main actions indicated by the spears on that card’s back (whereas playing it face-up lets you perform the actions printed on the card); you may play cards face-up or face-down in any empty slot. (Rulebook pp.8, 9)

### When exactly do I have to Issue an Edict?

An Edict is issued whenever you take an action on a space marked with the edict icon — e.g., placing an Ally on your Player Board, building certain Walls/Towers/Keeps or Great Walls, a Specialist reaching a marked Workplace, or selecting some City Bonus tiles — and you then choose and resolve one of the Active Edict tiles. (Rulebook pp.11–13)

### Can I summon an Ally from any city or if my Ally slots are full?

You may only Summon a face-up Ally from the city where your Ship is located, and you must place it on an empty dedicated Ally space that does not contain a Tower; if you have no empty Ally space you cannot perform the action. Also your Castle may never contain two identical Allies. (Rulebook p.14)

### If I Purchase an Advanced Action card, can I use it right away?

Yes — when you Purchase an Advanced Action card from your Ship’s city you pay its cost, immediately perform that card’s action as if played on your Player Board, then take the card into your hand and it is eligible to be played again that round. (Rulebook p.14)

### How does the End Phase hand refill and hand limit work?

During the End Phase discard played cards to your discard pile, you may discard any number from your hand, then draw until you reach your current hand limit (standard 5, which can be increased by Keeps or Workplace bonuses); if your draw pile is empty shuffle your discard to form a new draw pile. (Rulebook p.15)
