## Rules questions

### Can my explorer go back onto the island after becoming a swimmer or boarding a ship?

No — once an Explorer token leaves the island (by getting on a Ship or becoming a Swimmer) it can no longer return onto a Terrain tile (p. 4).

### What happens when the Sea Serpent/Shark/Whale moves onto a space with a ship or swimmers?

Sea Serpent entering a ship space removes the ship and any passengers (and removes Swimmers on that space); Shark moves 1–2 spaces, stops on a space with Swimmers and removes them but does not affect ships; Whale capsizes a ship (its passengers become Swimmers) and if a Shark is also there those Swimmers are removed — whales don’t affect Swimmers or empty ships (p. 4).

### Who can move a ship and how many explorers can a ship hold?

Each Ship holds a maximum of three Explorer tokens; an empty Ship may be moved by any player, but when occupied the player with the most Explorers aboard controls (and thus alone may move) the Ship, with ties meaning each tied player controls it (p. 5).

### When I remove a terrain tile, when do I play it and what kinds are there?

There are three kinds: tiles played immediately (reveal and resolve when removed), tiles played at the beginning of your turn (placed face down in your hand and may be played during step #1), and tiles played outside your turn as defensive reactions; follow the icon and timing on the tile (pp. 5–6).

### How does the "three spaces of movement" per turn work, and do swimmers move differently?

You have three spaces of movement total per turn which you may split among moving Explorers and/or Ships, but Swimmers may only be moved one sea space on your turn (and moving from land/ship into a sea space counts as one movement) (pp. 3–4).
