## Rules questions

### Do I have to follow suit when someone leads a trick?

Yes — after the lead plays, each other player must follow the lead suit if they are able; if you cannot follow suit you may play any card. (page 6)

### When can I play a White or Black Tower card, and what happens if both are played?

You may only play a Tower card if you cannot follow suit; a Tower card wins any trick it is in, but if both Tower cards are played to the same trick they cancel each other and the highest card of the lead suit wins as normal. (page 7)

### What are the rules for Orcs cards — can they win tricks or be led?

Orcs cards may only be played when you cannot follow suit, they can never win a trick, and if you are forced to lead with an Orcs card you immediately lose the chapter; if a trick contains only Orcs and both Towers it is set aside and the lead player leads again. (page 8)

### Can we discuss or show the cards in our hands to each other during play?

No — players may only discuss information visible to everyone; you cannot discuss or show cards in your hand or another player's hand, though you may remind others of public information like character goals or faceup cards. (page 9)

### How does the Rings suit work — when can Rings be led and what does the 1 of Rings do?

Rings cannot be led until someone has played a Rings card into a trick (after which flip the Ring token and Rings can be led), except a lead player with only Rings may lead them; the 1 of Rings may choose to automatically win the trick (including against Tower cards) or be treated as a normal 1 of Rings. (page 22)

### In 2-player games, how does the pyramid (open hand) work — which pyramid cards can be played?

One player controls a 12-card pyramid as the third player; only uncovered cards in the bottom row are playable at the start, facedown cards flip faceup when uncovered at the end of a trick, and exchanges with the pyramid use only uncovered bottom-row cards. (pages 26–27)
