## Rules questions

### What does a “mixed” Activity card do — can I place cubes and use them in the same action?

Mixed cards have both an immediate (place cubes) and a delayed (use cubes later) effect; you cannot place cubes and use them during the same action, but when you later use a mixed card you may use more than one cube from it. (page 1)

### Can another player buy or use my purple head-of-family die?

No — a purple die cannot be bought by another player and only the player who rolled it may use it; when you use it you choose its effective color (yellow, white, or red), it isn’t considered a color while on the board, and if used to counter a black die it counts double. (page 2)

### When I take Action 7 (Use your guard on the ramparts), can I modify that die with delayed-effect cards or move counterclockwise / past space 20?

The die used for Action 7 cannot be modified by delayed-effect cards, but you may boost its value by paying deniers (each denier = +1, up to a maximum of 6); guard movement must always be clockwise and you cannot advance past space 20. (pages 2–3)

### Can I use cubes from outdoor activities during other players' turns or during Phase 3 (Events)?

Yes — cubes placed on outdoor activities may be discarded to trigger their effects during other players' turns and during Phase 3: Events, subject to each activity’s text. Also note you may not use two cubes from the same outdoor activity in the same action. (pages 3–4)

### Can I use more than one cube to improve a single action (for example two delayed cubes)?

Sometimes — mixed-type Activity cards are exempt from the usual "one cube per action" restriction and you can combine cubes from different sources (delayed cards and outdoor activities) in the same action, but you cannot use two cubes from the same outdoor activity in a single action. (pages 1, 3)

### What happens when my guard first reaches the top gate — can I still move it or only place cubes?

When your guard first reaches the top gate you must place it on the Level IV outdoor activity there and you may no longer move the guard along the ramparts, but you may still take Action 7 to place cubes on the four outdoor activities. (page 3)
