## Rules questions

### Do we need the app to play?

Yes — the app is required: it manages time, penalties, codes, machines and hints; once downloaded you can play offline. (see page 7).

### How do I combine object numbers — can I add any two object cards together?

You combine objects by adding their printed numbers and then reveal the matching card, but follow the GOLDEN RULE: a red number can only be combined with a blue number and vice versa (letters cannot be combined with numbers). (see pages 4 and 8).

### What are the blue "+" modifiers and how do I use them?

Modifiers are blue “+” numbers that never match a card number and must be added to a red number (they substitute for a card number when combining). (see pages 5 and 8).

### When do we discard cards — do we discard cards used in a combination?

Discard cards when instructed: some cards show crossed-out numbers/letters and must be immediately discarded, and when you reveal a result card after a combination you discard the component cards (example: discard the key 11 and cabinet 35 after revealing 46). (see page 4).

### How do machines work — do we enter the machine card number in the app?

Yes — enter the machine’s card number in the app (or the number below a letter) and the app will display the machine, guide you through its steps, and often produce a result number you can then combine; note misuse can cost time. (see pages 5 and 7).

### How do codes work — how many digits and where do we enter them?

Codes are always four digits and must be entered using the app’s Code keypad (use the Hint/Code/Machine buttons to access the digital keypad). (see pages 7 and 8).
