## Rules questions

### Do I have to pick one of the three numbers on the flipped starship cards, or can I choose any number?

You must choose one of the three numbers shown on the flipped starship cards each turn and write that number on your sheet (or cross a System Error if you can't); you cannot pick a number that wasn't among the three flipped (p.5).

### How does the Astronaut action's “-2…+2” adjustment work — can I change any number by up to 2?

The Astronaut action lets you adjust the number you place by between −2 and +2 when you take that action, allowing you to shift the chosen number within that range as specified by the Astronaut rule (p.6).

### What is a System Error and when do I mark one — does it cost points?

You mark (cross) a System Error when you cannot or will not write a valid number on your sheet during your turn; System Error marks remain on your sheet and are counted as penalties at endgame scoring (see endgame scoring and penalties) (pp.5, 12).

### When I use Planning (place an X), do I have to place the whole X on one space, or can I split it between spaces?

The Planning action normally places a single X on one space of your sheet, but some Adventures modify this (for example, The Dome allows X+split as a variant), so follow the Adventure text when it says you may split (pp.6, 23).

### Do optional actions like Robot, Water, Plant and Energy require me to also write a number, or are they separate free actions?

Optional actions are taken in addition to choosing and writing a number (or taking a System Error) on your turn — they are extra effects available during the turn phases and depend on the card/action you selected (pp.5, 14).

### If I'm playing solo against ASTRA, how does ASTRA draw/use/give cards?

In ASTRA solo mode you set up ASTRA’s deck and scoring, then each ASTRA turn draws 3 cards, uses 2 and gives 1 (in solo play some ASTRA effects discard instead of giving), with special ASTRA scoring and endgame triggers detailed in the solo rules (pp.7–8).
