In an alternate America, a gate opens during the Battle of Gettysburg, releasing elves, orcs, dwarves, and other strange creatures into the Civil War. The conflict changes course as humans and newcomers struggle with political, racial, and national tensions. By 2020, the country has become the Empire of America, while the Republic of Mexico controls Florida and parts of the former southern border.
