A Sheer Butchery: Solferino 1859
On a brutally hot day in June 1859, the French, Piedmontese, and Austrian armies clashed in northern Italy. Around a quarter of a million men fought across three fronts, in the largest European battle since Waterloo. This historical wargame covers the fighting around Solferino, Medole, and Guidizzolo. Players command brigade-sized units on an accurate battlefield map, resolving fire and assaults with morale and cohesion checks. The system includes defensive fire during assaults and supports both competitive and solitaire play. Each turn represents one hour, with hexes covering 600 meters. A game takes approximately 3–5 hours.
