Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

How do we use the parent cards during setup?

Shuffle the mothers and fathers separately, then deal each player two of each. If you’re drafting starting cards, draft first; just before round 1, each player discards one mother and one father and reveals the ones they kept (p. 2).

When do I get the resource from my mother card?

When you reveal the card, place the resource on the round space shown; you receive it at the start of that round. If it’s an animal, you must accommodate it, turn it into food with an appropriate effect, or let it go (pp. 2–3).

What happens if my mother gives me a stable or a field?

Place it on an eligible farmyard space. If it’s food, a building resource, or a crop, place it in your personal supply (p. 3).

Do I have to claim a father card’s lowest reward as soon as I qualify?

No. You can wait until you meet a higher-tier requirement, but you can complete the task and claim a reward only once; then turn the card over (p. 3).

Do the fractional points on mother cards count in the final score?

Yes. Add or subtract the value shown from your total score at game end; these fractional points resolve any ties that existed before they were added (p. 3).

Can parent cards be used to make the game easier for new players?

Yes. The parent cards are an optional variant that gives each player an extra resource and a side task with rewards. You can also leave them out for experienced players when handicapping mixed-skill games (pp. 2, 4).
