Battlegroup: Westwall

The German Border, 1944 The German Army is full retreat after heavy defeat in Normandy. The Allied forces are sweeping across France and Belgium towards the German border, soon Germany itself will be invaded. To halt the Allied advance and buy time to rebuild their shattered forces, the German high command begin to rapidly reactivate and man the defences of the Westwall. Throughout the autumn, the advancing US armies, delayed by supply shortages, will find themselves engaged in bitter fighting to breakthrough the lines of concrete bunkers, minefields and anti-tank obstacles. Whilst behind the Westwall, theremaining panzers forces re-arm, ready to fight again. BACKGROUND A general overview of the war along Germanyä western border in the autumn of 1944, as the US armies push their first troops onto German soil. From the US 1st Army's battles at the Aachen Gap and through the dank Huertgen Forest, to the US 3rd Army's tank battles in the Lorraine and capture of fortress-city of Metz.
