Chess960
Rearrange the back-rank pieces before play so bishops sit on opposite colors and the king is placed between the two rooks; Black mirrors White. Play proceeds with standard chess rules (including castling adapted to the randomized setup), but each game begins from one of 960 possible starting positions. The variant preserves familiar piece movement and strategy while removing opening-book memorization, forcing players to develop plans from the unique initial layout.
