Dungeons & Dilemmas: The Dungeon as Narrative Framework and Encounters as Moral Puzzles
A system-agnostic guide to designing dungeon adventures with emotional and ethical depth. It presents dungeons as narrative structures and encounters as moral puzzles, adding questions of choice and consequence to exploration, hazards, combat, and treasure. Techniques and tools support existing fantasy roleplaying systems without requiring new rules or house rules. An example scenario follows an exploration of a tomb where an undead queen offers mercy in exchange for help reclaiming a religious throne and destroying the bloodline of those who betrayed her.
