Encounter Building
This supplement presents an alternative set of guidelines for building combat encounters in Dungeons & Dragons. It uses the same basic math as the Dungeon Master’s Guide system, with adjustments that provide a more flexible approach to encounter difficulty. The guidelines help Dungeon Masters assess whether an enemy is too dangerous for a particular group, understand the relationship between character levels and monster challenge ratings, and tailor encounters for games that place greater emphasis on combat.
