Flight of the Phaeton
A prototype Jump-1 exploration vessel carries survey equipment for charting new worlds and searching for a refuge from impending disaster. Most of its systems use early spacefaring technology, but its power plant is based on advanced alien designs. The vessel can operate as a standard Jump-1 ship or use an Alcubierre drive capable of more than two years of flight without refueling. Its antimatter-powered core also supports a devastating weapon, placing the crew in control of technology far beyond their society’s level of development.
