A young lord oversees the northernmost fortification of the Barony of Welles, a rundown outpost assigned to him because he is considered expendable. He uses his limited influence to improve the soldiers’ weapons and equipment, earning the support of the sixty troops and the favor of Sergeants Gallen and Arelius.
