Horse & Matchlock: Prelude to an Era
A historical wargame covering European warfare from 1618 to 1682, as armies transition from heavy pike formations to linear formations of musketeers. Scenarios depict battles from the Thirty Years’ War, Franco-Spanish War, English Civil Wars, the Fronde, Franco-Dutch War, and Scanian War. Players command infantry, cavalry, and artillery while managing the limited firepower of matchlock muskets, the defensive role of pikes, and the period’s shifting religious and political conflicts. The game includes 23 scenarios, including White Mountain, Breitenfeld, Lützen, Naseby, Rocroi, Marston Moor, Worcester, Seneffe, Lund, and Landskrona.
