ILAN: Exploring Antarctic Life puts players in charge of a scientific expedition through the Antarctic ecosystem. On each turn, you play a Biodiversity card and may also play a Factor card, using species abilities and environmental effects to interact with your own ecosystem, other players, and the shared Antarctic Circumpolar Current. Your goal is to build food webs of four or five different colors and use card abilities to reach 40 Victory Points before anyone else. This expansion shakes up that ecosystem with 32 new Biodiversity cards, introducing new species and strategic possibilities without adding complicated rules. Cards such as the Orca Pod can devour other organisms while costing your opponents points, while the seemingly harmless Weddell Seal Pup can help you draw additional Biodiversity cards. It also introduces three new Natural Factors, including Rafting, which lets you attract a macroalgae at just the right moment. These new effects integrate directly into ILAN’s existing mechanics, creating new interactions and giving you more ways to develop your ecosystem and complete food webs. The result is more variety, more surprises, and an ecosystem that feels even more alive.
