Iron and Oak

2013 · American Civil War

Iron and Oak

A tactical game of ship-to-ship combat set during the American Civil War. Players command Union or Confederate vessels with distinct gunnery, ramming, spar torpedoes, armor, damage, crew, draft, and maneuverability, fighting across an area movement grid. Fourteen scenarios recreate historical and hypothetical engagements involving ships, forts, and optional what-if rules. A standalone campaign module generates a series of battles in rivers, bays, inlets, and coastal areas, with players allocating resources and managing repairs and refits between engagements. Action cards offer options such as incendiary shells, rapid fire, repairs, and torpedo fields, while remaining optional to play.
