Migration

In this strategy game for 2–4 players, each player guides several anthropomorphic animals migrating to a new continent. Players take turns placing animal tokens as towns, with each new town generally originating from the most recently placed one. Every animal has a unique ability, creating different tactical possibilities. The game ends when no legal moves remain, and players score points for the towns on the board. This edition includes the original game and a second book with Age cards, optional drafting, a modular board, additional terrain modifiers, and six new explorer types.

Migration is a quick playing abstract game in the tradition of Hive, where game pieces have special abilities that determine their movement and placement around the board. The idea is, each player wants to have the most pieces faceup on the small hex board at the end of the game. This is done by playing secretly selected pieces from your hand, following that piece's placement rules. There are big hint cards for each piece to remind you of their abilities, and then the game is over before you know it. I'm enjoying how fresh each match feels, as you have a different map, and can select a different array of pieces to use. ★ Art, Iconography and components functional ★ Clever or interesting mechanisms ★ Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players ☆ Multiple plays stay interesting ★ Low or mitigatable luck elements ★★☆☆☆ Raw enjoyment
