2002 · Political
Red Guard
A mapless counter game for up to six players set during China’s Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, from 1966 to 1969. Factions within the Chinese Communist Party compete for control of political, military, and social sites while attempting to prevent civil war and widespread chaos. Chairman Mao moves through the arena as the factions position themselves to seize power. Thirty-six tiles form a map of locations such as the Military Affairs Committee and the Flying Pigeon Bicycle Factory. A sheet of 208 counters represents Party cadres, workers, Red Guard activists, and People’s Liberation Army units.
