2017 · Abstract Strategy
Sector 6
Players each control two prisoners navigating a shifting hexagonal maze to collect oxygen tiles of varying values and score the most points. The game begins with a construction phase in which players take turns placing hex tiles to build the prison layout, producing a different board each session. After construction, players take turns moving their tokens through the maze to gather oxygen while manipulating the board by rotating tiles to alter paths. Strategic tile placement and timely tile rotations are central, as changing the maze can open routes for oneself or block opponents. The game supports 1–4 players and runs about 30 minutes.

A simple abstract game. PROS - It is pretty easy to teach and learn. CONS - The whole concept feels... not very inspired, I guess. Just a very basic implementation of a core idea that is not even that interesting. - Setup is way too long, and I know it is supposed to be a part of the game, but it is not fun. - Production is a real problem, as rotating the tiles is not easy making the whole experience feel clunkier (and it definitely does not need more of that!).
