The Travellers command a warship on a flag-showing mission from the troubled Jewell-Vilis naval station. They visit worlds, support Imperial diplomats, and demonstrate the navy’s presence, while a sealed order reveals a covert assignment to locate misappropriated Imperial vessels. The mission draws them into regional politics, where they must investigate without exposing their purpose and decide how to handle the ships when they are found. They also face a diplomatic crisis on Arden, where a foreign officer is on trial and may be executed. Their choices can affect the balance of power and push the region closer to war.
