The Original D&D Setting

An edited collection of essays examining the implied setting of original Dungeons & Dragons, based on the map from Avalon Hill’s Outdoor Survival board game. It explores character strongholds, the relationship between castles and the surrounding wilderness, common terrain types, and the ways terrain shapes encounters and other aspects of play. The setting presents a small, heavily forested inland region where civilization borders unexplored lands inhabited by nomads, cavemen, dinosaurs, prehistoric animals, monsters, and other fantastic creatures.
