The Sexton
A church official known as the Sexton serves within Absalom’s oubliette, a prison he does not understand and whose true dangers he fails to recognize. He continues performing his ceremonial duties and venerating the Red Pope, despite the Black Monk’s constant presence beyond the door and the misery of eternal confinement.
