490 BC: Marathon – Introduction Module

This introductory tactical wargame recreates the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC, as Athenian hoplites defend against a Persian invasion force. Players command Greek phalanxes and Persian missile troops and cavalry, using contrasting formations and tactics to contest the battlefield. Army wings activate through chit pulls, followed by ranged attacks and an ongoing melee phase. Combat considers morale, facing, terrain, leadership, and unit disruption, with formations able to rout after absorbing sufficient damage. Scenario rules cover phalanx drift, variable advances, locked shields, and loose formations.
