1904 · Card Game

500

Trick-taking card game for 2–6 players that combines auction-style bidding with a kitty. Players are dealt hands (deck composition varies by player count) and bid to win a contract of 6–10 tricks, using cards from a shared kitty to improve their hand. With four or six players the game is commonly played in partnerships; two, three, five, and six-player games use alternate deck constructions and include a Joker as a high card. Play follows standard trick-taking rules with a ranked trump suit and special high cards (jokers and right/left bower equivalents) affecting trick order. Variants include a “nullo” contract where a player attempts to take no tricks and regional deck/ joker arrangements that change card strength and bidding order.
