9 Lives

2015 · Card Game

9 Lives

Players vie for points in a compact trick-taking game themed around lounging cats. Cards belong to 3–4 visible suits with a fixed trump, and play is must-follow. Before each round players bid how many tricks they expect to take (1–6), either exactly or as a range; each bid number may be used at most twice. Tricks are played normally, and the trick winner takes one card from the trick (not their own) into their hand. Points are awarded for meeting a bid and lost for missing it. The game ends after four rounds or when a player reaches nine points; the highest score wins.
