The battle against the tobacco industry in the second half of the twentieth century, as public health advocates, scientists, lawyers, and politicians confront deliberate disinformation and a deadly, addictive product. One side builds an economic deck, chaining actions to generate profits and influence. The opposing side develops a political tableau, organizing a movement to pursue legislation and regulation. Both sides clash in a disinformation war, with the industry able to spread doubt more easily than its opponents can dispel it.
