Gazala: The Cauldron
This wargame simulates the mobile fighting during the Battle of Gazala in Libya from May 27 to June 14, 1942, as Axis and Allied forces maneuver, counter-attack, and fight a battle of attrition south of Tobruk. Formations activate in alternating random order, with the number of activations varying each turn to represent supply, command confusion, fatigue, and intelligence. Movement reduces unit strength, making counter-attacks important. Minefields, airpower, anti-tank capabilities, and armor-infantry combat are represented through streamlined rules. Two scenarios cover the campaign at a scale of one day per turn, one mile per hex, and battalion- to regiment-sized units. Games take 3–7 hours.
