Next Station: London

2022 · City Building

Next Station: London

Players redesign sections of a city's underground network, placing track tiles to extend and connect four tube lines. Each turn reveals a new station card, draws a track section, and players place that section to optimise routes and reach landmarks while respecting city specifications. The game emphasizes routing across the river, using tunnels under the Thames, and managing four parallel lines to serve as many sights as possible within the given constraints.

#7 I really like the idea and the gameplay. But it sometimes feels like the game is playing you because you have not much choices. Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Do I have to draw a section every time a Station card is flipped?

No. Drawing is optional; if you skip a turn, ignore that card and wait for the next one (p. 7).

How do I know which station my new section must connect to?

Normally, start at one end of your line and connect to a station matching the symbol on the flipped card; your first section must start at your departure station. Central Station is an exception: you can connect to it regardless of the card’s symbol (pp. 7, 9).

Can my line cross another line or pass through a station I’ve already used?

No. A section must connect two stations without crossing another station or any previously drawn section, and you can’t revisit a station on the same line or draw a second section between the same pair of stations (p. 8).

Can different colored lines use the same station?

Yes. From the second round onward, you can connect a new line to a station used by an earlier line; this creates an interchange station, which scores at the end of the game (p. 10; scoring on p. 5).

What happens when the Railroad Switch card is flipped?

The controller flips the next Station card immediately. You may then start your section from any station already on your line, creating a branch; if the Switch appears on the first or second turn, ignore it (p. 9).

How do I score a line, and do tourist sites count toward its route score?

For the route score, multiply the number of different districts your line passes through by the most stations it connects in any one district, then add 2 points for each Thames-crossing section. Tourist sites are tracked separately: cross off one circle for each site on your line, up to 10 circles total (pp. 11–12).
