Players can tackle two solo scenarios or join cooperatively to face the Nemesis Beast or the Pirates of the Dark Star, using Merc Cruisers as neutral allies and deploying Gambit events like Bold Raid, Energy Shield, or Smuggling Run to alter play. The set integrates promo cards from earlier releases and provides new tactical options without changing core rules.

    Less awesome than I anticipated, the Mercenaries are the only part that I'll play with every game. The cooperative/solitaire modes are inferior to the dueling, and the gambit powers aren't all they're cracked up to be.
