The Lesser Players' Tale

A grubby troupe of Renaissance actors travels from town to town, performing a hastily adapted tragedy for each new audience. Participants play the actors and repeatedly perform a ten-minute play, improvising dialogue while responding to changing audience demands and the troupe’s dangers, opportunities, and strained family ties. The story includes scheming servants, forbidden love, mistaken death, sea disasters, adoption, suicide, and a lusty queen. Good acting is not required; the focus is on adapting the performance and keeping the troupe together.
