The Russo-Japanese War

A two-player operational game covering the 1904–05 campaign in Manchuria. Players command Russian and Japanese ground and naval forces, with divisions and selected regiments maneuvering across an 11-mile-per-hex map in weekly turns. Russia defends its possessions while receiving reinforcements from Siberia and European Russia; Japan must defeat the Russian army before those reinforcements arrive. Both sides must manage casualties and the risk of a prolonged war, with Russian national will and social unrest threatening the monarchy and Japan facing limited human, military, and financial resources. Additional players can take separate naval or ground commands.
