The Spill

Players form a response team tasked with containing a catastrophic offshore oil rupture and protecting coastal wildlife. A central four-way dice tower represents the blown rig and randomly drops oil dice into the board’s quadrants each round, while players move ships around the perimeter to push back slicks, remove oil dice from the water, and rescue marine animals. The team selects communal resource cards before play and spends them by removing oil dice or saving animal sets; weather dice introduce complications that restrict movement, increase costs, or add more oil. New oil dice are added each turn and the drop rate escalates, so coordination and planning are required to meet the victory objectives and avoid the game’s losing conditions.

The tower is the biggest letdown, ours doesn't go together well which leads to dice rolling into the same zones more often than not. There is also the sticker issue which you already know about. While we enjoyed the game, and the multitude of characters is nice, we feel like the re-playability is low and unfortunately won't be brought out as often as other games that are similar. We love co-ops and had some fun but ultimately this might not leave the shelf as often as we initially thought it would. I personally believe that the game is very luck based as animals can be hit anywhere on the board but the character acting can only move a very limited amount of space making it feel very sad to let the poor turtles (and other creatures) go into iso. We did win and lose on the easiest difficulty but that felt like we just had better dice rolls on the win than the loss. On the positives, we did enjoy the game and the price-point and speed of receiving were both top notch. The carboard tokens and the ship meeples are all great and I did enjoy the variety of character powers included. The theme was also great and the game was very thematic which provided us with a great experience.
