Wingspan: Oceania Expansion

2020 · Expansion for Base-game

Wingspan: Oceania Expansion

Adds birds from Australia and New Zealand to the base game, with cards intended to shuffle into the existing deck so they integrate with or without other expansions. Introduces a new food type, a new egg color, new bonus cards and additional end-of-round goals, plus updated player mats to support different strategies. Includes a two-player cooperative variant that adapts the solo mechanics into a team vs. game-controlled opponent.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Can I use nectar as any kind of food?

Yes. Nectar is wild when paying a bird’s food cost, using an “any food” bird ability, or paying for a player-mat upgrade. It is not wild when a bird power asks for a specific food type (pp. 2–3).

What happens to my leftover nectar at the end of a round?

Discard any unspent nectar in your personal supply back to the general supply; you can’t carry it into the next round. Don’t discard nectar on your spent-nectar spaces or cached on birds (p. 2).

When do I put nectar on the spent-nectar spaces, and what is it worth?

When you spend nectar for a bird, an eligible bird ability, or a player-mat upgrade, place it on the space for the habitat where you spent it. At game end, in each habitat, the most nectar scores 5 points and second-most scores 2; you need at least 1 there to qualify, and ties split the tied points rounded down (p. 3).

Can I reset the birdfeeder or bird tray when I take a food or card action?

On the new player mat, you may discard 1 food to reset the birdfeeder in the forest or the bird tray in the wetland. Do the reset first, then take food or cards (p. 3).

When do game-end bird powers happen?

Resolve the end-of-round steps first, including scoring the Round 4 goal, then activate game-end powers. If you have several, you choose their order; they do not trigger pink “once between turns” powers (pp. 2–3).
