No — when you take Gain Food, Lay Eggs, or Draw Cards you place your cube then activate any brown “When Activated” powers in that row from right to left, and using each power is optional (pages 4, 12).

No — cached food on bird cards is not spendable; when you play a bird you must pay its food cost using food tokens beside your player mat (page 6), while cached food is listed as a separate victory-point resource (page 12).

Eggs are a cost only when playing a bird into columns 2–5 (you discard eggs to pay that cost); the Lay Eggs action gives you eggs to place on birds and some slots let you pay 1 food to lay an extra egg (pages 6, 8).

Empty face-up spaces are not refilled immediately — you wait until the end of your turn to refill them, and at the end of each round all remaining face-up cards are discarded and replaced (pages 9, 14).

Pink “Once Between Turns” powers may be triggered on opponents’ turns but each such power can be used only once between your own turns (page 12).

On the green (majority) side tied players place cubes on the tied place and combine the points for the tied places, then divide those points among the tied players (rounding down); some multiplayer modes treat ties as friendly so both get full points (pages 15, 14).
