In the distant future, most of humanity lives in vast, self-sustaining space stations linked by teleportation doorways. Society has returned to a largely feudal structure, as few people understand the advanced machinery that produces food and water. These resources form the basis of power for competing groups, while spaceships are nearly unknown and the vacuum of space is widely feared.
