In this game you lay workers down to claim actions along the river, with the important caveat that you generally can't go upstream from your previous placements. The game is full of interesting push your luck situations in terms of trying to get all you need to succeed, but also wanting to rush down the line to the better actions. As you play you increase the abilities of your workers to lay brick tokens into the various structures for victory points or other interesting rewards. There's some tension in the game as you need to feed your workers each turn, but players can manipulate the water supply such that the higher yield cards might not pay out some rounds. The game has everything going for it, except that turn order is adjusted at the end of the round from least to most victory points, and it's pretty difficult to calculate that positioning out ahead of time. The push your luck elements of the game make scarcity of actions high, so turn order in the last two rounds becomes uncontrollable yet absolutely crucial and that can be frustrating. ★ Art, Iconography and components functional ★ Clever or interesting mechanisms ★ Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players ☆ Multiple plays stay interesting ☆ Low or mitigatable luck elements ★★★☆☆ Raw enjoyment
