Players harvest different types of magical roots—radishes, turnips and carrots—by drawing from a shared deck and revealing rows of cards. Revealed cards form left-to-right rows by root type; “Bad Root” cards appear among them and, unless removed, bite one same-type root at the end of each turn. When a second Bad Root of any type appears on a player’s area, they cancel each other; a special Tomatenstein card removes all Bad Roots to the discard pile. Each player also has four action cards that send Bad Roots to opponents, eliminate them, or cancel the last reveal. Play ends when the deck is exhausted and the player with the most root points wins.
