Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game

Players cooperate as squads of armored marines clearing a derelict starship of swarming alien creatures. Each player controls a combat team of two marines and manages a small hand of Action cards (Support, Attack, or Move+Activate), choosing actions secretly each round and resolving them in turn order. Combat and support tokens allow rerolls and coordinated defenses while a separate phase resolves Genestealer attacks by comparing dice to swarm size. Event and location cards spawn new enemies and advance the board, forcing the team to adapt and work together until all alien threats are eliminated or the marines are overrun.

Surprisingly immersive, nice mechanisms, the die can be a pain though... I actually sold and then re-bought the game as I started to miss it. I realized that I only like solo games with a strong theme (or a great presentation) and a fairly easy ruleset, and this one does just that. Sold again. Ultimately, I just didn't care for it enough and it's not a game I would play with my family or friends.

Can I pick and resolve the same Action card two rounds in a row?

No — a player may not choose an Action card that he resolved during the previous game round; keep chosen Action cards on the table until the end of the next Choose Actions Phase to remember (Rulebook p.11).

Can I spend a Support Token to reroll any die roll (for example the Heroic Charge roll)?

No — Support Tokens can only be spent to reroll dice rolled for an attack or a defense, and only if the Space Marine is facing the attacking or defending swarm; they cannot be used on non-attack rolls like Heroic Charge (Rulebook pp.15–16).

If a swarm attacks from behind, can the defending Marine still spend Support Tokens or defend?

No — a Space Marine may only spend Support Tokens or attack/defend against Genestealers that he is facing, so a swarm attacking from behind cannot be rerolled or defended with Support Tokens (Rulebook p.16).

When I move a Space Marine with a Move action, do the Terrain cards or Genestealers move with him?

No — when you swap a Space Marine with an adjacent card, all Terrain cards and Genestealers remain in the position the moved Marine left (they do not move with him) (Rulebook p.17).

If a blip pile is empty when an Event tries to spawn Genestealers, what happens?

Spawns are always drawn from the blip pile on that side; if that blip pile is empty then those Genestealers are not spawned, and if there are fewer cards than needed you spawn as many as possible of your choice (Rulebook pp.21–22).

When we TRAVEL to a new Location, do Genestealers engaged with Marines leave the formation?

No — engaged Genestealers remain in the formation during travel; they only leave play via specific Terrain abilities (e.g., Door), being discarded, or being slain (Rulebook p.25).
