The Fantasy Role-Playing Game

An examination of role-playing games as a performing art. The book develops a framework for analyzing their aesthetics and contributes to the emerging criticism and theory of the form. It considers four areas: the cultural structure and its relationship to outside influences, the formal structure of rules, the social structure of interaction among players, and the aesthetic structure through which role-playing emerges as an art form.
