Blue Water Navy: The War at Sea

A strategic-scale Cold War naval wargame set in the 1980s that covers operations from the Kola Peninsula and the North Atlantic down through the Mediterranean and across to the U.S. and Cuba. Players command full 1980s orders of battle — carrier groups, bomber regiments, submarines, air bases and support units — and use a card-driven system to spend points for movement or trigger special events. Most cards can also be played reactively during the opponent’s turn to disrupt actions. Detection and fog of war drive combat: task forces must be detected before they can be attacked, while land air bases are always visible. Scenarios and a campaign model convoy protection, amphibious and air strikes, submarine warfare, strategic strikes and political stability concerns, including leadership approval and first-strike options. Estimated playtime ranges from a few hours for scenarios to a full day or more for campaign games.
