Scoville

Players act as pepper growers hired to supply a town that loves spicy peppers. Each round contains a blind auction to set turn order, followed by planting, harvesting, and order-fulfillment phases. Players plant pepper tiles in shared fields, then move a pawn through the fields to harvest; moving between different-colored peppers creates crossbreeds. Harvested peppers are used to fulfill town orders or kept for future breeding, and opportunities for new hybrids grow as the board fills.

This is an extremely clever game about farming peppers, where you plant peppers into a common field, then walk a meeple around the field grabbing peppers from the box based on the combinations of pepper colors you stand between along your walk. Then you turn the peppers in for points or money. It's got fantastic fundamentals and intellectually I like everything about it. It feels a little like Fresco, the way you combine colors and race to complete objectives by turning in specific sets of colors. The only problem is this game comes with HEAVY analysis paralysis. We were all feeling it almost with every move. Time between turns with 5 players was almost too much to deal with, and this game can go up to 6 players. In the future, I don't know if I'd play this with more than 4, which is sad because the more players you have, the more planting happens, and the more movement blocking can happen. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :star: Clever or interesting mechanisms :nostar: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :star: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::star::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment
