The Lord of the Forge Holds: The Hostage Treaty

An adventure scenario for a party of level 7–9 heroes opposing the undead. The Lord of the Forge, a dwarven king, possesses a phylactery that sustains the Archlich known as the Deathless One. The artifact also serves as a treaty preventing undead hordes from attacking the dwarven mines, so obtaining it requires dealing with the king and the consequences of breaking the agreement. The scenario supports approaches based on deception, skill challenges, or combat, including an infiltration of the king’s vault. It also includes rules for Extended Challenges, a subsystem for resolving more involved non-combat obstacles.
