Players act as clan elders in early 17th-century Edo, maneuvering for favor under the new Shogun by completing missions and accumulating Prestige Points. Gameplay centers on gathering resources, recruiting specialists and helpers, and assigning agents to clandestine actions—spying, kidnapping and assassination—to thwart rivals and advance objectives. Modular components, upgraded deluxe pieces and new locations such as a tea house introduce variable helpers, specialist roles and additional mission types that change tactical options. Setup options let groups tune the level of player interaction and difficulty, allowing a range from mild competition to highly punitive, cutthroat play.
